Kaka's great start to the season

Real Madrid - Ajax
Kaka was away from the playing field for nearly five months last season due to a knee injury, but that's all in the past now. The Brazilian is having a great start to the 2011/12 campaign and has proven to be a key player for Mourinho in only six games.

The match against Ajax in Week 2 of the UCL group stage confirmed Kaka's great run. The Bernabeu crowd was able to see him enjoy playing the game again. He scored the team's second strike of the evening and assisted Benzema in the third. He also pulled off impressive individual efforts in attack that few players could emulate. "He is proving that he is a quality player," said assistant coach Aitor Karanka after the match. Sergio Ramos added the team wanted people to finally "acknowledge the hard work he's done," while Casillas pointed out how important it is for him "to be in good form because the team will benefit from it."

The Brazilian is happy at Real Madrid. He has played in all five league games, starting in the two most recent ones. His numbers are proof of his increasing influence to the team's game. He scored his side's fifth goal against Zaragoza on Week 1 and assisted Higuain with a brilliant heel pass to score Real's fourth against Getafe. The attacking midfielder also provoked the penalty from which Cristiano Ronaldo tallied the team's third goal against Rayo Vallecano. His debut in this season's Champions League last night was also spectacular (he missed the previous match against Dinamo Zagreb due to experiencing physical problems).

This start to the campaign is similar to the one he had in his first year as a Madridista. Kaka played 25 league games in the 2009/10 season, starting in 21, scoring eight goals (two in the first five games) and serving seven assists. He was the team's third top scorer behind Higuain and Cristiano Ronaldo. He scored one strike in one of the seven Champions League appearances he made, all as a starter. He also served two assists in said competition. With only six games in the present campaign, the midfielder is on his way of pulverising these previous numbers.

Kaka deserves even more credit when taking into account that he missed nearly five months last season due to an injury on his left knee. His will power and, above all, his will to succeed were key to his recovery. "I feel great," he said on Tuesday night, "I'm sure I will continue to improve."
